The Road to Body Confidence: How to Love Yourself

At Davinci’s, we believe every body is a work of art. We put our bodies through a hell of a lot, and they should be celebrated! Your natural body shape, with every curve, scar or dimple, is unique to you, and with that in mind you should make your body feel loved, it’s one in a million! You should always be in tune with your body, and like a friend or family member, sometimes you need little pick-me-ups to make you feel better.

Let’s talk about down days – we all have them. Days where we just find ourselves less attractive and less charismatic, we radiate negative vibes, we just want to stay indoors and curl up in bed until the storm is over. But what if we did something constructive with this mood? Instead of just riding it out? What if we told you there are tips out there to help you love yourself and help you embrace the real you.

Ditch FaceTune, and covering yourself up in your safety net of unflattering clothing, instead stop looking at the outside, and look inside. You know that quote that often appears on social media saying that you need to love yourself before someone can love you – well, it’s not just a dumb quote, there’s truth in it! When you learn to accept yourself as you are, you will just glow, and people will naturally be attracted to you, whether it’s professionally or in your personal life with family, friends or future partners. And trust us, you will really feel the positivity running through your veins!

Sometimes, we just want to be that Girl on Fire like in the Alicia Keys song, and here’s a few tips and tricks to help you in your body confidence journey…


Self-care is one of the most important things you can do to help you become more positive and make you feel at your best. This could be something simple – a decent night’s sleep, running a bubble bath after a bad day with all your favorite bath bombs, buying yourself a bouquet, covering yourself with your favorite coconut moisturizer for silky smooth skin or sitting in front of your favorite Netflix series with a luxurious hair mask… Taking time out for yourself, mentally and physically, well help you feel more relaxed and confident. You’ll soon start to notice little changes in your mood and how you handle your complexes. Little flaws will become a part of your natural body, and you’ll soon grow to accept them like a true Davinci woman!

Mirror Affirmations

Cliché though this may sound, looking at yourself in the mirror will help. Stand in front of a full-length mirror and take in the view – you may first see your flaws, just because you’re used to pointing them out, but then you’ll soon see parts you will appreciate. Perhaps you like your arms, or your face, whatever it is, highlight it! You can do it in your loungewear, in your sexiest Davinci lingerie or even naked if you want to dive into the deep end. You’ll soon think positively and overlook your flaws – which of course, are part of you too! Don’t see them as flaws, see them as your war paint, that you have on you at all times to kick ass, work hard and feel hella sexy in!

Stop Comparing Yourself

Stop beating yourself up mentally and comparing yourself to others. Everyone has their own hang-ups, and what you find so perfect within someone else may be for them, their biggest flaw, for all you know! If you also tend to snoop around influencers’ social media and compare their bodies to yours, just remember – Photoshop and FaceTune exist. It’s no secret, you know, we know it, everyone knows it!

Nothing is always as it seems… Just because you don’t see it on social media doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Of course, people aren’t going to necessarily show photos of them with a few tummy rolls, or a bikini photo with cellulite on show – because they could be as insecure as you are. But this does need to change – all of these things are normal, skin has texture, your stomach gets bloated after eating, so why beat yourself up over things that are perfectly natural? At Davinci’s, we truly believe every body is beautiful - and there’s absolutely no catch!

Instead, use that energy that you spend comparing yourself to others and invest it in yourself. Become who you want to be, and not what you’re seeing around you.

Refresh Your Social Media

On that note, does social media make you feel bad about your body? Are you being mocked online, or you’re seeing influencers selling fit teas left, right and center? When it becomes tiresome, it’s a better time than any to refresh your social media. Unfollow those toxic accounts, and follow people that you can relate to, and that you admire. Davinci’s Instagram is your first go-to on those down days - think inspirational quotes, sexy women just rocking their own skin and some seriously bold apparel for the woman you are.

Don’t Punish Yourself

When you’re having a bad day, it’s very easy to think – that’s it, I’m going on a diet! There is no need to punish yourself. Enjoy that pizza with your colleagues, enjoy that glass of wine with the girls – the key is balance. Have fun, enjoy your food, and don’t deprive yourself of things that bring you joy! Like in the masterful Davinci’s artwork, your body is a work of art - exciting, unique and beautiful - so live your life that way too! Every stroke, every curve, is unique to you, to a life experience, and why should anyone take that away from you?

Surround Yourself With Positive People

To feel positive, you also need to surround yourself with the right people. You don’t need someone over your shoulder, saying “Are you sure you want to eat that?”, or criticizing you constantly. You need someone who will hype you up and egg you on to achieve your goals. Whatever happened to women supporting women? Instead of bitching about one another, empower each other! Davinci women encourage each other to do better and celebrate each other - we’ve got each other’s backs, don’t you worry!

If it’s not that easy to cut that person out – learn to take a step back, take a deep breath and speak out. In any case, you can’t go on letting people make you feel bad about yourself. We are all worthy of self-love!

Find Your Inner Peace

To feel at one with yourself – mind, body and soul, we highly recommend relaxing and strength-building activities such as yoga and meditation. Not only do they enhance your strength and banish those aches and pains, but they can impact your moods too. A brighter mind will think more positively, and therefore help you think of your body more positively too. It helps you manage your stress. Plus, these activities usually have a strong community behind them, allowing you to meet like-minded people, like fellow Davinci ladies!  A happier mind, a happier body and new, encouraging, empowering friends – what more could you want?

Change Your Dialogue

It’s easy to look at yourself and say, “I hate my thighs”, “I hate my freckles”, “I hate my arms” but what should you be doing instead? Change your inner dialogue – because at the end of the day, you are your own best friend. Would you say what you say to yourself, to your closest friend? No, didn’t think so! So why are you doing it to yourself?

Instead, be grateful, and find some pride in your body. Maybe you’ve been trying an intense workout and you’re not quite where you want to be? Perhaps you’ve a new mom? Perhaps you’ve had a rough time personally and you are just finding more things to find fault in? Instead of being so down-hearted about these parts of your body, think about all the things they allow you to do and enjoy those aspects!

Not Everyone is Laughing at You

We all have had that feeling out and about when you see people smiling that there is something wrong with your outfit, or they’re mocking your body, your voice, your walk… Whatever it is, you’re convinced that there is something wrong with you!

There is no need to be so skeptical, there are some genuinely nice people out there that just want to smile at you – perhaps they admire your style, your attitude and, in cases where they might know of you, aspire to be more like you! So, what do you do in these cases? Just simply, return the smile. And the more you smile, the more positive you will feel!

Keep Active

Though we are totally against diet culture and this constant pressure to be Photoshop perfect, we love working out! At Davinci’s, we love keeping active and achieving amazing results! Hitting those targets makes us feel fabulous in ourselves, and especially when we’ve managed to drag ourselves out of bed! Keeping active is renowned for boosting your mood, relaxing you, and reducing chances of depression. You will find yourself with a healthier state of mind, ready to face any challenges and improve that inner dialogue. It will also improve your sleep patterns and lower stress – result!

Find a workout you enjoy doing, and it doesn’t have to be lifting heavy weights at the gym! If you’re just getting started on your fitness and body confidence journeys, there is so much you can do from the comfort of your own home. You can try out dance workouts on YouTube to some of your favorite songs, do Instagram live workouts, and Zoom meetups allowing you to meet new people and do a bit of cardio. Whatever it is, as long as it motivates you, it will boost your mood, and when you see results, will help you love your body even more!

List Your Favorite Parts

You’re so deep in negativity, you forget what you actually like about yourself. Get yourself a cute notepad and start listing the things you like yourself for or that make you proud – mind, body and soul. Perhaps you’ve been through a difficult time, or you’re on a self development journey, maybe you just want to remember why you should love your body – whatever it is, write it down, and you’ll soon realize that there are so many things to love!

Day by day, week by week, by adopting a positive attitude, you’ll write more and more things down. Though you may not feel confident and first, as they say “fake it until you make it”! After a certain amount of time you will no longer need to fake positivity, you will just glow!

Learn To Accept Compliments

It’s always nice but awkward when you get a compliment. You don’t want to appear arrogant, nor do you want to appear rude by not accepting it or deflecting. Just know – by thanking someone for a compliment, you are not being vain. You deserve it! Enjoy being complimented, and hey – you can even write it down in your notepad and remember it. Stop Comparing Yourself To Your Younger Self

It’s very easy to look back on photos from high school or your early college years and wonder, “Why did I hate my body then? It’s better than it is now!”. You’re growing up, you’re evolving, mentally and spiritually, but that also means physically. You won’t ping back into your high school weight in a flash, and neither should you. If anything, hating your body when you deemed yourself “slimmer” and hating your body now as an adult, doesn’t mean your body was the problem – the common denominator here is your attitude.

Not just your attitude, but society as a whole! Photoshopped magazine covers, FaceTuned Instagram feeds, fit teas, a lack of diversity in many industries, but to name a few, are also at fault. We love this post from Alex Light, it really struck a chord with us. She later shared a quote from emmieehw on Twitter:

“Being a woman is thinking you’re ugly and looking back at pictures when you also thought you were ugly at the time and being like omg I was so hot. And never actually remembering what it was like to be hot at that time because you thought you were ugly.”

Remember There Is More To You Than Your Body

We live in a shallow society, admittedly, but remember that there is more to you than your body. Though perhaps everyone’s first impression will be orientated towards your look, then they get to know your personality. Perhaps you are a great manager, perhaps you have a talent, or perhaps you know you are a good friend. These are very valuable qualities, and even more so than having an Instagram-perfect body! Because the main thing is that you feel good in yourself, no matter your body shape or type.

It’s easier said than done, but don’t jump onto the style over substance bandwagon. You deserve to not look at yourself in such a shallow way. Remember – your personality will always prevail!

Get Rid Of Clothes That Make You Feel Bad

We are all guilty of keeping clothes “for when we lose weight”, or “when we feel they look better on us”, and then never ever end up wearing them again! Why even bother? Remember Marie Kondo a few years back? Do you remember what she would say? Her motto was, if it doesn’t spark joy, don’t keep it – and she’s right! If an item of clothing is lowering your self-esteem, why even keep it? Fashion is meant to be fun, a journey of self-discovery, not one of pressuring yourself. We are all about feeling empowered, inspired and motivated by your clothing, and you don’t deserve anything less!

Instead, there are so many things you can do with these unworn, unloved clothes, such as:

  • Donate them to a charity
  • Organize a clothes swap with friends
  • Sell them online (Vinted, Vestiaire Collective, Depop, you’ll be lost for choice!)
  • Rent your clothes (Rent the Runway, Nuuly…)
  • Upcycle them (ok, so you may not fit into that t-shirt anymore, but it would make a cute tote or makeupbag!)

    Have A Cell Phone Detox

    As we mentioned earlier, social media is partly to blame for our insecurities nowadays, and notably people who edit their appearance. No one has a “perfect” body… not really!

    If you’re someone who does spend a lot of their time on their phone, then a way to really boost your mood and have a more positive outlook is to have a cell phone detox. For a weekend, get into the great outdoors and leave your phone on silent or switched off. Don’t be tempted to sneak a peak at your notifications, and realize how much more confident you are at the end of the day. Sure, social media is an amazing platform to give you an inside view of other people’s lives, brands’ latest news and keep in touch with your nearest and dearest, but it shouldn’t be to the detriment of your mental health.

    Last But Not Least, Dance In Your Best Lingerie And Feel Sexy

    That’s right! Slip into your sexiest Davinci’s lingerie and put your sexiest, girlboss-iest playlist on, and just start dancing and let loose a little! Just have fun, dance like no one is watching, and feel like the boss you are. You’ve spent all this time mistreating yourself, so now is the time to make up for it. Positivity attracts positivity as they say! And as soon as you treat yourself better, you’ll see that the world will too!
